Recycled Yarns - Cotton Blend

British Christmas Jumpers eco-friendly collection is knitted in England from our super soft and sustainable GRS certified 100% recycled yarn, which is made from a special blend of 60% Regenerated Cotton and 40% Recycled Bottles. By using post-consumer waste cotton and polyester from locally recycled plastic bottles we avoid water intensive conventional cotton farming and save thousands of plastic bottles from being dumped into the ocean. We firmly believe in the spirit of Christmas and the joy that it brings to millions of people, but this should not come at the expense of the planet that we call our home.

Recycled Cotton Yarn – How It’s Made

What Is Recycled Cotton Yarn?

Recycled cotton yarn is created by recovering post-consumer and post-industrial cotton waste, then re-spinning it into new, durable fibre. It delivers the feel of cotton with a significantly lower environmental impact, supporting circular fashion and reducing landfill.

The Process: From Waste to Yarn

We follow a controlled, traceable process to turn discarded textiles into quality yarn suitable for long-lasting knitwear.

  • Collection: Sorted post-consumer garments and offcuts are gathered for recovery.
  • Cleaning & Sorting: Zips, buttons and trims are removed; fibres are graded by colour and quality to minimise re-dyeing.
  • Shredding: Textiles are mechanically opened back into staple fibre ready for spinning.
  • Carding & Spinning: Fibres are aligned, blended and spun into stable, consistent yarn.

Blending Cotton with Recycled Bottles

For strength and longevity, recycled cotton is often blended with recycled polyester made from locally recycled plastic bottles. The blend improves pilling performance, shape retention and wash durability—extending the life of your knitwear while diverting plastic from waste streams.

Why Choose Sustainable Recycled Knitwear?

  • Reduced water use: Avoids water-intensive conventional cotton cultivation.
  • Lower carbon footprint: Reuses existing materials and shortens supply chains.
  • Circular fashion benefits: Keeps textiles in use for longer and cuts landfill.
  • Colour savings: Fibre-colour sorting can reduce or remove the need for dyeing.
